Carmen Loiselle honoured with 2012 Prix Florence
|
Carmen G. Loiselle, Ph.D., senior scientist at the Lady Davis Institute and Centre for Nursing Research at the Jewish General Hospital, was honoured with the 2012 Prix Florence in recognition of excellence in nursing research by the Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec (OIIQ).
Dr. Loiselle, who is also an Associate Professor at the School of Nursing and the Department of Oncology in the McGill Faculty of Medicine, is the inaugural Christine and Hershel Victor / Hope and Cope Research Chair in Psychosocial Oncology. Her research focuses on documenting the effects of various models of patient care (i.e., professional, peer and virtual) on individuals’ adjustment to cancer and reliance on health care services. She has a particular expertise in how the electronic delivery of psychosocial interventions can impact the broader health care system. Indeed, she has shown that newly diagnosed cancer patients given access to multimedia information tend to be more satisfied, are better able to adapt to their situation, and even engage in healthier choices than those without such access. In a recently funded multisite study, she continues to examine how patients can be most empowered through access to high quality cancer information and support and the impact this can have on the cost-effectiveness of service delivery.
Dr. Loiselle will receive her award at a gala hosted by the OIIQ on May 2, 2012.
