LDI Seminar Series in Biostatistics

What is it? Five-week lecture series for all biomedical researchers at the LDI that will cover essential aspects related to the proper incorporation of biostatistics into research design and data interpretation. Each lecture will be followed by a question and answer period.

Why is it important? To provide researchers with the essential concepts and methods of statistics in biomedical research. To understand the proper use of statistics and correct interpretation of results in biomedical research.

Speaker: Kevin McGregor (PhD Candidate with Dr. Celia Greenwood)
Kevin McGregor is a PhD candidate in biostatistics in McGill University’s Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Occupational Health. He is currently working under the supervision of Drs. Celia Greenwood (Lady Davis Institute) and Aurélie Labbe (HEC Montréal). Kevin’s research is concerned with the development and application of statistical methodology in genetic and genomic studies. He has experience in the analysis of a variety of genomic data types including DNA methylation, RNA sequencing, and 16S sequencing. He has provided quantitative support in studies investigating the role of genetics and epigenetics in colorectal cancer, autoimmune diseases, and anorexia nervosa. The research project Kevin is undertaking in his PhD concerns the inference of co-occurrence networks in human microbiome data. In addition, Kevin has designed and implemented a series of computer-based tutorials on basic statistics in psychology, as well as provided statistical guidance to several students in educational psychology and medicine.
