The Cancer Research Program (Axis) at the Lady Davis Institute is led by Dr. Gerald Batist, who is simultaneously director of the Segal Cancer Centre (SCC). Research activities carried out at the joint research/clinical SCC fall under the aegis of the Lady Davis Institute.
Research in the cancer axis focuses on molecular oncology, cancer prevention, cancer genetics, biomarkers in cancer therapy, new cancer therapies, translational physics and radiobiology and psychosocial oncology. The axis emphasizes a strong clinical research component that strives to better understand and treat different types of cancers. With one of the largest groups of clinicians-scientists in Québec, the research done here ensures strong links between the more fundamental laboratory work to its clinical application. Many investigators have collaborative research initiatives with colleagues within the LDI, the SCC, McGill University and with provincial, national and international colleagues. Moreover, the multidimensional nature of cancer research means that while many investigators have a primary focus on one theme, they may also have research projects that apply to other research themes. The oncology axis is a major research activity at the LDI with research groups located in both Segal Cancer Centre and Lady Davis Institute.
