Over the years, the LDI has been remarkably successful in attracting outstanding investigators with recognized excellence in areas such as Cancer Therapeutics, Molecular Oncology, Cell and Gene Therapy, AIDS/HIV, Aging, Hypertension and Cardiovascular Disease, Clinical Epidemiology, and Psychosocial Aspects of Disease. The LDI boasts more than 200 researchers and is one of the most productive hospital-based research institutes in Canada and Quebec in terms of peer-reviewed grant funding per square feet. Over 340 clinical trials are currently active at the CIUSSS/LDI.
The LDI is the 7th hospital-based research institute by research spending growth in Canada based on a recent ranking of the top forty such institutions in Canada; it placed 11th for research intensity (research spending as a percentage of total hospital spending) and for researcher intensity (research spending per researcher) in the Large hospital rankings.
