In addition to the external sources of funding available to them, graduate students and postdocs at the LDI have the opportunity to compete for internal salary support and travel awards.

The LDI offers graduate students and postdocs the opportunity to compete for internal sources of salary support in the form of scholarships/fellowships.

As the LDI is committed to the ideal that research excellence is greatly enhanced by ensuring equity of opportunity in research, every graduate that meets the merit criteria are funded each year. These awards are conferred to enhance the graduate training of students enrolled in years two to seven of a PhD program or in years two or three of a MSc program by providing travel funds for the presentation of a scholarly contribution at an international scientific meeting. Only travel to international scientific conferences is considered (International conferences held within Canada are eligible). Each LDI Travel Award is in the amount of up to $1,000 CAD and is paid as a reimbursement of travel expenses, including conference registration fees and associated costs.

The competition is held twice per year, in April and in October respectively.
