MSc Student - Translational Research on Gynecological Cancers

Start:
Fall 2026

Department:
Division of Clinical and Translational Research (Experimental Medicine), McGill University
Jewish General Hospital (JGH) and Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research (LDI)

Supervisors:
Dr. Melica Brodeur, MSc, MD, Assistant Professor, departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and of Oncology, McGill University

Project description:
We are seeking a highly motivated master’s student to join a translational research project focused on liquid biopsy–based next-generation sequencing (NGS) in ovarian cancer. This project will investigate the use of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) and related biomarkers to improve molecular profiling, treatment monitoring, and/or prediction of therapeutic response in ovarian cancer patients. The student will work with clinically annotated patient samples and cutting-edge genomic technologies, contributing to an active research program at the interface of molecular oncology, genomics, and clinical translation.

The student will be embedded in a multidisciplinary team that includes clinician-scientists, clinicians, and clinical biology specialists, with access to state-of-the-art laboratory and computational infrastructure. The project offers strong opportunities for skill development in translational cancer research and precision oncology.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, biomedical sciences, bioinformatics, or related discipline) and will have to meet the requirements to apply for Division of Clinical and Translational Research (Experimental Medicine) program at McGill University. The student should also have a strong interest in cancer biology, genomics, and/or precision medicine.

Interested candidates should submit a brief statement of interest describing research background and career goals; a curriculum vitae (CV); transcripts; and contact information for 2–3 references. Applications should be sent to:: melica.brodeur@mcgill.ca.

2025 Webster Postdoctoral Scholar Position in Child Development and Neuroscience

Start:
March 2025 or negotiable

Department:
BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute

Supervisors:
Dr. Wazana is a Child Psychiatrist, Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Director, Early Childhood Disorders psychiatric day hospital, Jewish General Hospital, studying pre- and perinatal influences on lifetime psychopathology.

Dr. Oberlander is a Developmental Pediatrician, Professor, Dept of Pediatrics and School of Population and Public Health, studying how early experiences influence child development.

Dr. Laplante is a research scientist with expertise in perinatal impacts (disasters, maternal mood, socio-environmental) on development across the lifespan.

Project description:

A collaboration between the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research (LDI: Montreal, Quebec) and the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR: Vancouver, British Columbia) is now accepting applications for the 2022 Webster Postdoctoral Scholars Program to support exceptional research trainees and generate innovative research in Child Development and Neuroscience under the mentorship of Drs. Ashley Wazana (McGill University) and Tim Oberlander (university of British Columbia) in the area of developmental neuroscience. The postdoctoral scholar will also work closely with Drs. David P Laplante and François Freddy Ateba (LDI) in onboarding the rich UBC longitudinal dataset, Pregnancy during the COVID-19 Pandemic study, into the Developmental Research in Early Adversity Mental Health BIological Susceptibility and Gender (DREAM BIG) consortium of perinatal longitudinal birth cohorts, focusing on the harmonization and analysis of the UBC perinatal maternal adversity and child mental health outcomes from the so that comparable analyses can be performed across the DREAM BIG cohorts in an effort to increase replication of mental health findings that can inform treatment and public policy.

The goal of the program is to support recent a PhD or MD graduate in conducting clinical and translational research with the intent to develop future leaders in Child Developmental Health research.

Applicants should have training in neuroscience, psychology, medical sciences (Pediatrics), or other relevant discipline, and experience with MR image acquisition, processing, and/or analysis.

Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, CV, graduate transcript(s), and names and contact information for at least two references to Dr. Tim Oberlander (email: toberlander@bcchr.ca).

Postdoctoral fellow to oversee large scale efficacy of targeted multi-walled carbon nanotubes for the photothermal ablation of xenograft prostate cancer tumors

Start:
September 1, 2024

Department:
Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research, Jewish General Hospital.

Supervisor:
Mark Trifiro, MD, professor in the Division of Experimental Medicine at McGill University and senior researcher at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research of the Jewish General Hospital.

Project description:

MITACS funds are available for the recruitment for a post-doctoral fellow, that will oversee large scale efficacy of targeted multi-walled carbon nanotubes for the photothermal ablation of xenograft prostate cancer tumors.

As part of our route towards development of the technology for clinical applicability as a photothermal treatment for prostate cancer (PCa), we will be determining the efficacy of our Glu-urea-Lys-MWCNT nanoformulation platform by assessing tumor recurrence and disease-free outcomes The Glu-urea-Lys-MWCNT formulation uses a peptidomimetic compound that binds to the Prostate Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA); a PCa-specific surface receptor whose expression is correlated with disease onset and progression.

Simultaneously, tests will also be performed to assess photothermal therapy safety of the nanoformulation, biochemical blood testing, histopathological analysis and. adverse events will be documented.

Contact:

Interested candidates are invited to submit a CV and cover letter by email to Dr. Mark Trifiro at: mark.trifiro@mcgill.ca and Dr. Miltiadis Paliouras at mpaliouras@guzzonanoresearch.ca.

Note: This position is supported by MITACS award.

Postdoctoral researcher for a qualitative study on the role of culture in the experience of postnatal depression in the context of breastfeeding

Start:
Immediate

Department:
Department of Psychiatry, Jewish General Hospital and McGill University.

Supervisors:
Danielle Groleau, PhD, full professor in the Division of Social and Transcultural Psychiatry at McGill University and senior researcher at the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research of the Jewish General Hospital

Project description:
The postnatal period represents a challenge for many mothers, making them vulnerable to psychiatric disorders, particularly depressive episodes. Maternal PND can have adverse effects on both mother and infant, often leading to early weaning. Conversely, successful breastfeeding has been associated with an improvement in PND symptoms. Despite this, the underlying mechanisms of the relationship between PND and breastfeeding remain poorly understood. This study aims to fill this gap by focusing on cultural communities such as Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish as well as South Saharan African women, where breastfeeding despite DPN is much more prevalent.

As a postdoctoral fellow, you will play a key role in a larger research project exploring psychosocial and cultural factors influencing breastfeeding duration in mothers with PND. You will have the opportunity to develop your own project within this framework, focusing on understanding the meaning and experience of PND and breastfeeding in a sub-sample of affected mothers. In addition, you will be able to explore the perspectives of fathers (or the 2nd parent identifying as female or 2SLGBTQ+ if applicable) with PND symptoms.

Contact:

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a brief (1-page) statement of research interests and career goals, and contact information for five references. Please send your application to psychosocial.ccomtl@ssss.gouv.qc.ca with the subject line “Application Postdoctoral Fellow – [Your Name]”. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.

Note: This postdoctoral fellowship is conditional on obtaining a UTTING fellowship from the Department of Psychiatry at the Jewish General Hospital.
