Snapshot

The Ahn Lab studies how cancer cells communicate with and reprogram their microenvironment. We combine mass spectrometry-based functional proteomics, systems biology, and in vivo models to understand tumor–host interactions directly in tissues and determine how they drive tumor progression, shape immune responses, and promote therapeutic resistance. We use these insights to identify new strategies for treating cancers such as glioblastoma.

Major Research Activities

The specific research areas in the laboratory include:

  • Decoding tumor–host communication: Applying innovative functional proteomics approaches to define how signaling networks are co-regulated across tumor, immune, and other host cells within the tumor microenvironment, and leveraging these insights to identify new therapeutic strategies for cancer.
  • Tumor–immune interactions in glioblastoma: Investigating how glioblastoma reprograms macrophage and microglial signaling and immune function, with a focus on innate immune checkpoints and mechanisms that regulate anti-tumor immunity and therapeutic response.
  • Technology development for tumor–host biology: Developing new proteomic approaches to resolve signaling at cell-type and single-cell resolution and characterize molecular interactions in vivo, enabling the study of tumor–host communication with greater spatial, cellular, and molecular precision.
